Where It Started
Sativa University launched as one of the first cannabis education platforms in the country. We created courses, hosted workshops, and helped thousands of people understand the plant, the industry, and the opportunity. Over the years, more than 60,000 students enrolled in our programs, and we earned 1,260+ reviews from people whose careers and understanding of cannabis we helped shape.
But as the industry grew, we kept hearing the same thing: "Where do I actually go to find a dispensary I can trust? How do I know which strain is right for me? What are the laws in my state?" The answers were scattered across dozens of unreliable sources, paywalled directories, and marketing-driven platforms. Nobody had put it all in one place. Nobody had done it right.
What We Built
We took everything we learned from teaching cannabis and poured it into building America's most comprehensive cannabis intelligence platform. Not another directory with stale data. Not another review site owned by the companies being reviewed. A genuinely independent resource built by people who spent years in the trenches of cannabis education.
Today, Sativa University maps over 63,406 cannabis businesses across 52 states, profiles 1,615+ strains with real effect data, breaks down cannabis laws state by state, and gives consumers a personal journal to track what works for them. Every page on this platform exists because a real person once asked us the question it answers.
Why We're Different
Our strain data comes from real people logging real experiences—not brand partnerships or paid placements. When you rate a strain, log a session, or answer a question, you're making the platform smarter for everyone.
Dispensaries, strains, laws, guides, glossary, calculators, and a personal cannabis journal—all in one place. No more bouncing between five different apps and websites to figure out what you need.
We didn't start as a tech company that discovered cannabis. We started as cannabis educators who built the technology to match. That background shapes everything—from how we write strain descriptions to why every state law page actually explains what the rules mean.
By the Numbers
Fighting for the Industry
We don't just publish information about cannabis—we invest in its future. Sativa University allocates over $250,000 per month toward federal and state cannabis advocacy, working alongside lobbyists, policymakers, and industry organizations to advance legalization, reform outdated regulations, and protect the businesses and consumers that make this industry possible.
This isn't a marketing line. It's a financial commitment to the belief that cannabis should be legal, regulated fairly, and accessible to every American who can benefit from it. When you use Sativa University, you're supporting a platform that puts real money behind the fight for federal legalization, equitable licensing, and sensible regulation at the state level.
Our Commitment to Accuracy
Every business listing is compiled from verified sources and geocoded for accuracy. Every strain profile is fact-checked against published research and enriched by community data. Every state law guide is reviewed against current legislation. We don't publish content to fill pages—we publish content to answer real questions.
