Cannabis Grow & Harvest ROI Calculator

What does this calculator do?
The Ultimate Harvest ROI Calculator is a comprehensive tool that estimates the total costs and potential profits of a cannabis grow operation—factoring in everything from the number of plants, veg and flower times, HVAC usage (AC tonnage, insulation level, outside temperature), nutrient expenses, trimming labor, electricity, and more. By inputting your own variables, you’ll see a detailed breakdown of estimated yield, revenue, production costs, net profit, and overall return on investment (ROI). This helps cultivators plan budgets, evaluate strain choices, compare grow styles (like Sea of Green vs. SCROG), and optimize every facet of their operations.

Why should I use this calculator?

Growing cannabis can involve dozens of moving parts—electricity costs, nutrient usage, labor hours, HVAC demands, and more. This ROI Calculator helps you see the big picture by combining these factors into a single estimated profit and ROI percentage. It’s a one-stop snapshot of your grow’s financial feasibility.

What if my numbers don’t match the results?

All values in the calculator are estimates, and real-world outcomes can vary due to:
– Local electricity rates
– Specific equipment efficiencies
– Plant genetics and variations
– Labor skill level and local wage rates
– Weather fluctuations (affecting cooling costs)

Use this tool as a guideline, then refine its inputs over time to get closer to your actual costs and yields.

How does it account for different grow styles (Sea of Green, SCROG, etc.)?

Each grow style can affect:
Trimming labor (more or fewer plants, different canopy management)
Yield per plant
Veg times
In the calculator, these styles adjust “style factors” for labor and can also influence how many plants you run at once. You can further tweak the veg/flower days and yield per plant to reflect real data from your grow style.

Do I need to change anything for Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid?

Yes. Strain types typically have different flowering durations (e.g., Indicas might finish faster than Sativas). The calculator also applies a strain factor to trimming labor, because some strains have more foliage or are denser, changing how long it takes to trim. Adjust the Flowering Time (days) and “Strain Type” to see how it affects your overall ROI.

How are HVAC costs (AC and dehumidifier) calculated?

We use a simplified formula that considers:
AC tonnage
Average outside temperature
Insulation level
Dehumidifier wattage
Estimated hours per day the system might run

This provides a rough monthly/daily cost for cooling and dehumidification. Real usage can differ if you have a more (or less) efficient system, or if your climate changes drastically.

How accurate is the trimming labor estimate?

We base trimming hours on grams of yield and a typical hours-per-ounce factor, which is then adjusted by grow style and strain factors. In reality, trimming rates vary widely by individual skill and the density or leafiness of your strain. Keep notes on real trimming times in your grow logs to refine the default ratio.

Can I include rent or licensing fees?

Currently, the snippet focuses on production costs (like nutrients, labor, electricity). If you want to include rent, licensing fees, or overhead (insurance, management, etc.), you can modify the JavaScript logic to add those fields. Some growers also factor in equipment depreciation to get an even clearer long-term ROI.

How can I verify my numbers?

1. Gather real data on your last harvest—electric bills, labor hours, yield weights, etc.
2. Plug them into the calculator and see how close it is.
3. Adjust any ratio or multiplier in the code (e.g., the AC usage formula or trimming factor) to better match your actual results.

Does the calculator handle partial harvests or staggered grows?

This version calculates one full cycle of veg + flower. If you run perpetual or staggered grows, you could treat each “cycle” as a unit (e.g., 8 plants finishing every two weeks) and adapt the time/veg/flowering numbers accordingly. Some users add advanced logic to track multiple rooms or cycles at once.

Are the ROI and net profit guaranteed?

No. ROI is an estimate based on your inputs. Real-world results can be higher or lower due to unforeseen events (pest outbreaks, equipment failure, local market changes in selling price, etc.). The calculator is a planning and decision-making tool, not a guarantee.
