Juicing Cannabis For A Healthy Diet

While fruits and veggies are important staples in a healthy and balanced diet it can be difficult for people to consume enough leafy greens.

People are increasingly juicing their greens, but what about juicing cannabis leaves or buds?

The raw form of cannabis is a dietary vital supplement. It provides a great mix of omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6. It is very easy to make cannabis juice at your home, as long as you have fresh cannabis to use.

Northern California physician Dr. William Courtney studies the dietary effects of cannabis and has worked with more that 7,000 medical marijuana patients. Dr. Courtney believes the best vegetable on the planet is cannabis.

He has made claims that it has the power to boost our immune systems and increase bone growth. If you are currently taking any prescription drugs and antibiotics, it’s a good idea for you to talk to a physician before you try drinking juiced cannabis. Juicing may not work for you if there are any issues with your gallbladder or kidneys.

If you think that consuming juiced cannabis is the best move for your health and you want some tips, here are five things you should consider.

Juicing Cannabis: Will It Get You High?

A common misunderstanding about cannabis is that the plant contains ample amounts of the intoxicating delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in its raw form, but that’s not exactly true.

Fresh cannabis actually produces tetrahydrocannabinol acid (THCA), which converts to THC when exposed to heat and light in a process called decarboxylation. Furthermore, you shouldn’t expect any significant psychoactive effects from juiced cannabis because it contains very little THC.

Harvesting Your Cannabis For Juicing

Always use freshly harvested cannabis leaves for juicing. The older your cannabis plant material is, the more likely it will be to get damaged, oxidized, and lose its nutrients. The third week after a plant has finished flowering is the best time to harvest it. You should choose the leaves on the interior of the plant. These are the ones that catch the most sunlight and will contain the most nutrients.

Which Technique and Juicer Works Best

Mandee Lee of Try This recommends using a wheatgrass juicer. Wheatgrass juicers will work well for juicing fibrous substances. It’s better to choose an electric juicer than a hand crank, as it takes a good amount of cannabis (15 leaves), to make a small amount. Using a hand juicer for this can cause fatigue and lead to your arms getting tired.

Re-juicing the pulp is also a good technique. This will allow you to yield more juice. Also, every drop counts. Soak your cannabis leaves for 5 minutes in cold water before you begin juicing. This will open up the pores of the cannabis plant and allow it to become more bioavailable. It’s important not to juice the stems. They can become fibrous and clog your juicer.

Consuming And Storing Your Juiced Cannabis

Freshly juiced cannabis can have a lively and fresh taste, similar to a shot of wheatgrass. The flavor may be a bit harsh, so you can add water or coconut milk to dilute it. You can also mix it with another type of vegetable or green juice (like kale juice for example), to alter the flavor.

You can store your cannabis juice in the fridge in a sealed bottle for up to 3 days. It is unlikely that you will be able to harvest and juice cannabis every day, so the best thing to do is make the juice into ice cubes.

While there is a wide range of opinions regarding how long your cannabis juice can last in the fridge, most experts agree that it should be kept for around 3 days to a week. However freezing will extend the lifespan of your cannabis juice. You can add a cube to any juice or smoothie without ever tasting the difference.

How To Get Your Supply Of Cannabis

Most dispensaries don’t have the ability to offer any cannabis trimming to customers or patients. Instead, it is a good idea to get in touch with a local grower and ask if they would be willing to give up their trim. You can usually get your trim from growers, but they are more likely to offer it to someone who will make good use of it. You should also make sure the trim is organic and pesticide-free.

Additionally, if you don’t live near a grower, you may be able to grow your own plants (if that is legal in your place of residence). This gives you maximum freedom and access to pick your harvest whenever you wish.
