Purple nugs are a sight for sore eyes.

Beautiful deep green nugs with vibrant shades of purple and orange hairs, doesn’t this make your mouth water?

When it comes to appearances and flavor, everyone loves a purple or grape flavored nug.

Who doesn’t love staring deeply into a purple nug and watching the shades of purple undulate and fade into tints of green and even orange?

Grape nugs are one the most popular cannabis flavors out there.

Grape Weed Strains: What Makes it Smell Like Grape?

Those pungent smells you encounter when opening a jar of cannabis are due to the presence of volatile compounds known as terpenes.

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give plants, fruits, and trees their smells. You may be familiar with essential oils and their relaxing benefits, these are terpenes.

Furthermore, terpenes are what give any cannabis strain it’s aromatic profile and taste.

Terpenes also act as pest inhibitors, this is why citronella is used to repel mosquitos and the like. They are also the reason why many herbivores avoid eating cannabis plants.

As far as grape-flavored strains go, the presence of the terpene myrcene is often responsible for the grape flavor. Myrcene has musky, earthy, and red grape like flavors which influence the grape flavor in many grape cannabis strains.

Additionally, myrcene has relaxing and sedative effects on humans, this is why many grape strains are associated with relaxation and stress relief.

The combination of different terpenes found in cannabis plants influence many aspects of the strain-specific experience depending on their composition. However, this list will just be focusing on flavor.

Here are five cannabis strains that smell and taste exactly like grapes.

granddaddy purp

Granddaddy Purple

This strain is the OG when it comes to grape strains.

It is the reason why we all love purple buds. We often expect them to be very sedating and relaxing.

GDP is a cross-breed of Big Bud and Purple Urkle. It produces a beautiful combination of big, purple buds and thick crystal-like trichomes.

This early-2000s creation of Ken Estes is still the original purple strain that is used to cross breed other popular stains like Forbidden Fruit and Zkittlez.

The purple hues of GDP flowers stand out against the white crystal resin’s snowy, powdery background.

Furthermore, the potent effects of the GDP strain are evident in both mind and body, providing a combination of cerebral euphoria with physical relaxation.

Purple punch

Purple Punch

This newer strain is a fairly new breed among purple strains that is a cross between Granddaddy Purple and Larry OG.

Purple Punch is known for being a sweet and tasty strain. Imagine a grape candy that melts then transforms into a grape syrup.

That is exactly what this strain tastes like, it’s the Juicy drop pop of cannabis strains.

Similarly to GDP, it also has a relaxing and sedating feel to it.

Purple Punch flowers are perfectly coated in white trichomes.

This strain has beautiful light-green and dark purple buds. As a result, this strain is excellent for making concentrates.

Furthermore, you will notice an incredible feeling of relaxation, as your mind stops racing and your muscles begin to relax. Myrcene, a dominant terpene in this strain responsible for the grape-like flavor is know to cause the ‘couch lock’ effect.

Needless to say, be sure to set aside time before you consume this THC powerhouse.

Mendocino Purps

This deliciously purple strain derives from Mendocino county, California.

Mendocino County is the same county that has given us great cannabis for decades.

The original Mendo Purps strain is a clone-only breed. Although, back in 2004, BC Bud Depot released a seed variety that produces a fairly similar strain called The Purps.

Additionally, it is also known as Mendocino Purple and Mendo Purple.

Mendo Purps has a complex grapey, earthy, hashy taste and it will keep you glued to the couch for hours.

Furthermore, if you are looking for a tranquilizing strain, this is the strain for you.

Grape Ape

This strain is another highly favored grape strain, and should not be confused for similar strain, Forbidden fruit.

It is a cross breed between Mendo Purps and a Skunk along with an Afghani strain. An absolutely wild combination, which explains its high popularity.

It’s a lovely flower with a strong aroma. Add Afghani to the mix and those effects will certainly hit with quite the PUNCH.

Grape Ape can be very relaxing and anxiety relieving.

Furthermore, it’s not what I would call a “sleepy” strain. It doesn’t make you feel like you feel very sleepy. Rather it will make you feel so relaxed that your body will seem like a lazy heap of potatoes.

Grape Bubba

This beautifully grapey strain combines Purple Urkle with Bubba Kush.

It smells earthy, sweet, and grapey and it is also immensely sticky.

It’s one the most refreshing strains out there when it comes to smell. Grape Bubba has some similarities to its parent strain, Bubba Kush.

While Bubba Kush is a sleepy strain that should only be smoked in bed due to how intense the high will be, Grape Bubba is not quite as powerful.

Although it is the descendant strain, Grape Bubba is a bit more even-keeled and has a more manageable high.
