Phosphorus Deficiency in Plants
Phosphorus assists in plant growth, health, and the formation of plant-based proteins. It is required for good photosynthesis.
Phosphorus Deficiency Symptoms in Plants
A sign of phosphorus deficiency includes dry, brown, or discolored leaves. Leaves can become purple/red, have dead spots on stems, or could subsequently have a blue/green tint.
A phosphorus deficiency that goes ignored will cause slower horizontal and vertical growth. Leaves may curl, have blackish spots, fall off or show hues of dark bronze or purple.
How to Treat Cannabis Phosphorous Deficiency
Growers can increase bioavailability by ensuring pH levels remain closer to 6 (more acidic). Using a fertilizer high in Phosphorus is suggested. Organic options include worm castings or fish meals.
Check that temperatures are correct. A cooler temperature can make it harder for plants to absorb Phosphorus. Avoid overwatering plants.
How to Prevent Cannabis Phosphorous Deficiency
Use phosphorus-rich growing mediums. For easier growth, well-aerated containers are recommended, like an airpot. These provide improved soil oxygenation. Well-rotted manure mixed in compost can help. Also, mycorrhizal fungi assist in soil quality as microbes can convert soluble phosphates to be easier for roots to absorb and use.
